A little background on why I named this blog what I did.

I should probably do a little explaining on my title of this blog. First my last name is White. Therefore I live in the "White House." Living in the "White House" makes me the 1st Lady. My physical address says I live in Westwood Ca. (not the one by Los Angeles) but a little mountain town in Northeastern Ca. However I really live in a section out of Westwood known as Pinetown. With all the joking going on between my friends, I inevitably became Pinetowns 1st Lady living in the "White House." With all that said, this is just going to be a more personal blog of my life here in Westwood/Pinetown. My family and friends being a big part of it.
Originally I really wanted to take a picture a day for one year and post it on this blog. Perhaps like a photo diary. My life though is quite quiet and perhaps is not photo worthy for a picture a day but I plan on trying. So why not hop in and take a ride with me through little mountain town U.S.A. You may just love it as much as I do!

Wet, heavy and un forgiving snow

Since it snowed wet heavy snow all night long like it was the thing to do (which apparently it was) we, (my hubby and I) had to go outside this morning and shovel all that wet heavy snow if we wanted to
A. Walk out of the house
B. Drive away from the house
We so far have got A. done, LOL!!!
This snow is HEAVY!!!
So I took the dogs for a quick walk around our block and took these pictures for my picture(s) of the day! It was really really beautiful out there, and besides that, walking the dogs beats the HELL out of shoveling the car out.

You know me, got to have my willow pictures!!!
And of course my favorite, this is over looking Westwood!

Snow Flowers

Again a day of non stop rain. Then a half an hour of snow, big thick wet snow. So what's a girl to do? Go out and take pictures of "Snow Flowers"

I messed around on Picasso with this one and softened the outside perimeter

Snowflakes bigger than I have ever seen in my life.

Raining cats and dogs, horses and goats and everything else, I had already decided I was not even going to try to take a picture(s) today. I honestly thought I would wreck my camera. That is how hard it rained all day. Trust me we need it something fierce also.

But around 3:30 this afternoon it started to snow. Now I don't mean just snow, I mean snowflakes bigger than I have ever seen in my life. Grabbing my camera, I did the best I could do. It just does not begin to capture how huge these flakes were. It also ended almost as quick as it began and started raining again!

I am simply standing on my front porch snapping these.

Snow plow meets utility pole

On November 22nd I wrote a post here about a great big utility pole right in front of our house yet in the middle of the street. Today when I was outside taking pictures I noticed this.
I find it a little alarming, you can tell the snow plow did it, and I would find it hard for the snow plow to NOT have known he did it. I guess the reason we saw it today for the first time is because the snow finally melted away from it.

I think this is a little on the scary side. How about you?

I know I don't feel any safer!!!

OUR LADY OF THE SNOWS and CHRIST THE KING CHURCH

OUR LADY OF THE SNOWS and CHRIST THE KING CHURCH is on Ash st. in Westwood.
Freezing ass cold, I decided to walk there today for many a reason. Although the wind did make it bitter cold, sometimes ya just got to get out, right?
Besides all that, we received a dusting of snow last night which always makes thing look nicer. It covers up that dirty snow, and brings a whole new freshness. The sun was out and as bright as could be. So all in all by the time I got back from Westwood into Pinetown I was peeling off the layers of clothing I was wearing to get there.

It is a beautiful day as far as weather goes. It's one of those where you look out your window and you just KNOW it's got to be warm outside, but then you walk outside and your mind is quickly changed! LOL!!!

My first Scenic Sunday!

Scenic Sunday is the name of a meme that's out there on the internet. These memes have had me wanting to join but I never really understood it. Quite frankly I still don't but I am going to try it today.
Why today? You probably did not ask to yourself? LOL!!!
Because I am really, really thrilled with these pictures. I noticed a rainbow around the sun, but with the newly fallen snow and the BRIGHT blue sky I had no clue if I could capture it with my little camera. When I went to take these pictures I could not even see if I was close to getting the picture as it was so bright. I was not disappointed when I came in and put them on the computer. So for my picture(s) of the day and my first time trying to do Scenic Sunday these are my pics!

You can barely see the rainbow around the sun here. This is out my backyard overlooking the neighbors house.

I zoomed between the trees, like I said before I really could not see if I was getting this,

Is that trippy or what?

As usual I like to save my favorite for last. Since I have had this camera I have never got a rainbow or colors of the rainbow such as these. So now I am going to see if I can not link to Scenic Sundays.

This boat will not see water for awhile

Before the wind and rain starts to blow I went out back to the mill pond again in search of a picture(s) for today. I decided on this lone boat sitting out here in the weather getting ready to be covered with snow once again. It will be awhile until it is used here or any place else local for that matter.

Green amongst white

Green, by far my favorite color, at least if I were asked what my favorite color was I would without hesitation say green, although I may follow it with, "but red comes in a close second."
The picture(s) I chose for today came because my hubby and I had just came back from the store and I noticed what I thought would be very beautiful pictures, due to the sun, and the snow.
However it was not a spot we could just pull the car over and take pictures,
(although I did have my camera with me! =1 point Allison, LOL!!!)

So I opted for a ride home and I decided to walk back to the spot.

On the way I saw what will now become my picture(s) of the day. Greens, all different shades of greens sticking out from the pureness of the color white surrounding them.
These are my pictures of the day!
This scene is simply on the right hand side of my street when you come into the "town" of Pinetown from Westwood.
Beautiful, is it not???
As usual (and I am beginning to say this on every post) I like saving my favorite for last and this one is it. To me it looks as if it could be a frozen lake.

My "Lucky Day"

Everybody has their own idea on what is pleasant to the eyes in life and in photography. For the most part I probably am considered on the weird side. Like I really liked the picture I took of the press the other day. A press of all things but I liked it. Today's post is what I am going to call a lucky day when it comes to the picture(s) for me. Starting with a simple walk around the block I noticed the sun hitting this group of trees just right (in my eyes). And like I said in the beginning we all have what we as a person consider their favorites. These today, on "a lucky day" is what I find appealing to the eye.

I actually took 67 pictures of this scene today and I liked most of them sooo much that it took half the night to bring them all down to these 4.

I just LOVE the sun rays in this one
And this one also
But as usual I like to save my favorite for last, and there's just something about this one that "Speaks to me"

Even posts can be drips!!!

Iactually had the chance today of getting a picture of SOMETHING other than what I got. The reason being my son Travis took me to the store, and there were plenty of things to take pictures of. I even brought my camera but good conversation took over and before I knew it I was sitting back at home. So here's what you do in a pinch in Westwood when you are trying to think of something to take a picture of in your picture a day blog.

So here's a shiny drip, now we know that's exciting!

Now here's a bunch of non drippers!

And my favorite. A REAL drip, just like this post is today!!!
I hope I made you smile with that little crack by me.
In all honesty you should have been here when my husband and I were trying to come up with ideas for a picture today.
It really was not a pretty thought, and it involved snow, animals and colors, now was I not a good little blogtess by posting drips???
I think so!!!

The "White Stuff "at the "White House"

This is what we woke to this morning. They said we were going to get hit hard and they were right, (whoever they are) LOL!!! The wind blew like crazy all night long and the big Pine tree you can see in the front yard across the street was so heavy laden with snow I was sure a couple of her branches were going to break under the weight of this wet snow.

This too I thought was a trip to see the telephone wires so full of the "white stuff"
There is going to be a tremendous amount of digging to do if anyone needs to go somewhere.

Pines in the snow

Chatting with someone a few minutes ago, I noticed that the snow had quit flying and that if I were going to get a picture of the outside today I had better do it then. The clouds were looming overhead, getting increasingly darker and I knew the snow was ready to blow fiercely again at any moment. I excused myself from the chat but did make the comment that I was not expecting a very good picture, mainly because quite honestly I was not into tramping to far away in the windy cold miserable weather.

Well I got a little lucky in that a snowmobile had just gone through the forest behind my house and I had a nice packed down pathway made for me.

I still did not venture too far. (The snowmobile riders ) were not able to take away the cold and bitter wind, LOL!!!
But I am somewhat happy with this picture of the pine tree laden with just a bit of snow, just 3 days before Christmas.
And the little baby pine that perhaps will look the same as above in a decade or two.

It's melting

A very windy and warm day today for the season. It is a sweltering 45 degrees as I write this. The icicles that surrounded this house just a couple days ago now makes it look as if it is raining they are melting away so fast. Not knowing what to take for a picture today, the only thing that kept coming to my mind was the melting. So today I am posting for my picture(s) of the day is the evidence of the melting of the snow.
What was a beautiful white encased street just a couple days ago is now a big bunch of slush in our streets.

I have been seeing pictures of "drips" on others blogs and thought I would give it a try. For a first timer, I am happy with this one,

And really happy with this. I love the separated droplet that came up and out of the drip!

Blow,Blow, Blowing Snow

Wind blowing all yesterday afternoon and evening and ALL night long has left me tired, very, very tired. The windows shook all night long and as written before that Pine tree in my backyard always worries me in this kind of wind.
It's funny to me, as I was mentioning about that stupid Pine tree in my backyard and how it scares me when it is so windy to my son Troy via the telephone this morning. he says, "Ah mom, Don't you know how deep those roots are, that tree is not going to fall over on the house"
Do I have STUPID tatoo'd on my forehead?
I said to him "DUH!!! I am not worried about the tree falling, I am worried about the branches snapping off and falling"
Oh well, sooo much for making myself clear!
For today the picture(s) are of my front door. When I opened it this morning around 10:00 A.M. I noticed how the wind had blown the snow up all the way to the top of my front door, I can only imagine what it may have looked like hours earlier, as you can see how the spots are already melting off.
I made this little welcome friends door thing years ago when I had a memorial service here at my home for my best friend. It's funny how it has never broke or fallen off. The "snow circles" are actually little bells.

View Larger Map This is where I live. To the right of Westwood barely visible is the little section I live in called Pinetown. We have probably 150 to 200 people for our population. Westwood on the other hand is HUGE by comparison with a population of around 2000!
