A little background on why I named this blog what I did.

I should probably do a little explaining on my title of this blog. First my last name is White. Therefore I live in the "White House." Living in the "White House" makes me the 1st Lady. My physical address says I live in Westwood Ca. (not the one by Los Angeles) but a little mountain town in Northeastern Ca. However I really live in a section out of Westwood known as Pinetown. With all the joking going on between my friends, I inevitably became Pinetowns 1st Lady living in the "White House." With all that said, this is just going to be a more personal blog of my life here in Westwood/Pinetown. My family and friends being a big part of it.
Originally I really wanted to take a picture a day for one year and post it on this blog. Perhaps like a photo diary. My life though is quite quiet and perhaps is not photo worthy for a picture a day but I plan on trying. So why not hop in and take a ride with me through little mountain town U.S.A. You may just love it as much as I do!

Duck, Duck,Goose and weather!

Iswear that Lassen County California, it can be beautiful in the morning, warm, etc. Then it can rain and go so far as to snow and THEN have beautiful sunshine again. I have never seen any normalcy to our weather up here. Today was indeed no exception. Started out with me putting on a tank top expecting to sit and/or work in the yard and get some sun. Next thing I know it is raining, here comes the wind-breaker coat. After that it was all about putting on a heavy coat, beanie and ditching snow. I give up. But just to point it out, I went to the mill pond again looking for "my geese." The ones I posted just yesterday? They were there, this ought to show you what I mean by the differance in Lassen County weather!

In like a lion

Snow,
power outages because of ;
all equal Lassen County and a messed up day as far as posting goes.
We have really been dumped on in the last 36 hours. Wet, heavy snow! I have sooo much to write about and even more to post. I found an old friend from these stomping grounds, and in less than 48 hours I have received awesome pictures of her and her family, all grown up and beautiful. I have been given the O.K. to post some of these pictures. I have now tried to 3 times today to only be cut off by the electricity flickering on and off. I have given up for today! And that makes me sad when I have been so happy about my finding of those dear to me.
So for today just a peak of what we have been through in the last 36 hours!
PEACE!!!
Yes, March has definitely come in like a lion. WOW!!!
I think I took this same picture a couple days ago when I wrote the post about the huge snow flakes.
I guess them huge snowflakes done stuck, huh? LOL!!!
It also looks like my outdoor feathered friends aren't going to get any seed out of this bird feeder for a few days anyway. Bummer!

The Caboose

Another dark and gloomy day in this part of Lassen County. Not a whole lot of pretty about it. The wind was decent , so it was a bit easier to go out and take a walk. (I hate bitter cold wind, especially when walking on snow lined streets!)
What a sissy la-la for a mountain girl huh?
Anyhoo I took my walk expecting to only go around Pinetown, but I found myself in Westwood and decided to take a picture of the" Caboose."

The Caboose has been sitting on the corner of Westwoods main drag (LOL!!!) Birch and Fourth St across the street from Young's Market for quite awhile. If I recall right it was a gift shop at one time. I absolutely LOVE trains, (espescially Cabbose's .I find it a little odd that I do not remember more about this caboose. But anyway, it sits on the corner there with a For rent sign in the window of the house looking part. Seems sad to me that it is sitting there empty, but a lot of Westwood is becoming empty. I often wonder what will become of this place in just 10 years let alone 20.

Just recently we had the only pharmacy close, which to me was an awful thing to happen. With as many senior citizens and then new mom's with babies, it's a true tragedy that in order to get medication you have to drive either 13 miles to Chester, Ca. or 21 miles to Susanville, Ca. I do not see Westwood having a promising future anymore. This is horribly sad to me.

And boy did I get off the track on this post. Soooo back on the track with my picture(s) of the day,

The "Caboose"

The calm before the storm

The calm before the storm. Overlooking the town of Westwood this evening before sunset. We are suppose to get hit tonight with a storm.

In the snow

Willows in Westwood, Ca. 96137

Willows! There is something that has always fascinated me about their looks, especially this time of year. The pinks, reds, burgundy's, maroons! Red and green are my favorite colors so I suppose that I should not be that surprised with my love of their looks. Today again as I was walking, I spotted these. It is getting to be that I am worried whether I will be able to keep this up for an entire year (this blog) when it comes to a picture a day, but as far as I am concerned as long as there is something this pretty around the corner, I think I could keep it up for a lifetime!
At the bottom I am adding water effect to one of the pictures. I have waaaay to much fun with this site sometimes! LOL!!!

Yep, I love this water effect!

Water Effect

Utility Trailer?

Trying to come up with the proper name for this, my husband and I came up with a" little,small,2 wheeled utility trailer made out of wood" for lack of better and proper words to describe my picture(s) of the day! LOL!!!

It has 2 wheels

It is little and small, (and kinda cute if you were going to ask me)

and it's made out of wood!
Whoa, we wer not that far off on descritive words for this!
Seriously though the waether was sooo much nicer and warmer than yesterday. A truly beautiful day in Lassen County, Ca.

Crisp, Clean,Clear and Cold

Crisp, Clean, Clear, Cold and absolutely beautiful is what I found today on my daily walk. It is days like these that remind me that a local Wal-Mart, and several dozen grocery stores, and a place to simply go to , to buy some clothes just does not seem to rank that high in the things that matter to me in my small life. This is what matters. I can never (and obviously never will) get tired of walking down the street and seeing this!
God's country

Not so inviting this time!

Today as I was walking my dogs I came across a spot where I had taken a picture before. I decided to repost it because of the stark contrast from the first one . I entitled it A forgotton tree house and you can click on that here.It blows my mind sometimes what a couple months can make. The first set of pictures were so pretty with all the colors and yet today it is almost foreboding.

Between the dark and gloomy sky and the leafless trees, it sure does not look like the same place I had wrote about before!

Coming home from Susanville

Shopping in Susanville was the name of the game today. 21 miles east of Westwood, my girlfriend and I did "girl stuff". Coming home and hanging my head out her car window I snapped these pictures. It was a weird day weather wise. Super, super foogy we almost turned around and came home. by the time we were coming back the fog had lifted somewhat.

This boat will not see water for awhile

Before the wind and rain starts to blow I went out back to the mill pond again in search of a picture(s) for today. I decided on this lone boat sitting out here in the weather getting ready to be covered with snow once again. It will be awhile until it is used here or any place else local for that matter.

Ice Caves

Weather is beginning to show. It is showing it's winter colors. Today is the calm before the storm of which we are expecting so very soon! I went out towards the "Mill pond" which is right behind my house to try to show those that read this blog, or stop by once in awhile, (which by the way I am truly grateful) what the posts about shooting water into the sky with your hose in the winter is all about. I have posted a couple of these here. My attempt at getting something out of an over night freeze (or two) . I thought before it starts to snow again I would try to get a picture of  the people that live across the way from me got me started on. It is always sooo awesome!

If you look at this picture closely on the left in the middle of the snow hill is their hose next to this pile of rocks. They keep this on all winter. I walked up there to get some closer pictures and DAMN it is trippy looking!

Ya know, this reminds me of a ride at Knott's Berry Farm, (located in Buena Park California)The colors and all. I guess if you have never been to Knott's Berry Farm it would be hard to describe, but they have rides where you go through these colorful caves and this just reminds me of that!

I have no idea why I find all this so fascinating. It is only frozen water, but I just do. I think I am pretty well done with posting any more of these. So ya'll are safe now! LOL!!!
Things should be back to normal tomorrow, including the snowy weather that is always around here in Lassen County in January!
Ahhh , It sure was nice (the wonderful weather) while it lasted!

Walk with me?

Beautiful day we have here in Westwood/Pinetown Ca 96137 for sure. Here it is January 18th and the sun is out and has been out for awhile now. It has been getting into the 50's in the day here.
Today I thought I would search around the mill pond for my picture(s) today, yet once I started walking it is still quite difficult do to the snow still on the ground. So instead of just one theme for my picture(s) today I thought I would show what I saw on a very small walk on this beautiful day!
The colrs of the manzanita and the willows still reminds me of autumn,
Turn around at the same spot and you see winter and just LOOK at that MORE than blue sky! Wow!!!

And a long forgot ball . It has been here for awhile.
So that was my walk, I am glad you joined me!
PEACE!!!

View Larger Map This is where I live. To the right of Westwood barely visible is the little section I live in called Pinetown. We have probably 150 to 200 people for our population. Westwood on the other hand is HUGE by comparison with a population of around 2000!
