Yellow winged blackbird

Yellow winged blackbird hanging out at the Mill pond. I have never heard of this bird before and actually was going to delete these pictures when my husband walked by and said "Oh a yellow winged blackbird" and then he pointed out the shoulder and its coloring there.

 

Can you see the coloring on the wing?

 

My husband said that's what they are called around here and admits he is not sure if that is the "real name"

 

I do think the water is beautiful today!

 

On the bottom of this picture you can barely see another bird. I did not know it was even in this picture till just now. LOL!!!

Westwood Community Services District

Starting out as a beautiful day, It is now freezing ass cold. I thought I would share the Westwood Community Services District building. This is the place that I have given more money to throughout my 30 years of living here. It is our water company and sewage. And I do not think anyone in Lassen County would disagree that this is our biggest bill!

This is on Ash street. Our streets are named in alphabetical order A thru G . It startes with Ash st. then Birch, Cedar, Elm St. (Yes we have an Elm St. LOL!) Fir and Greenwood St. Yup all trees.

Ice Caves

Weather is beginning to show. It is showing it's winter colors. Today is the calm before the storm of which we are expecting so very soon! I went out towards the "Mill pond" which is right behind my house to try to show those that read this blog, or stop by once in awhile, (which by the way I am truly grateful) what the posts about shooting water into the sky with your hose in the winter is all about. I have posted a couple of these here. My attempt at getting something out of an over night freeze (or two) . I thought before it starts to snow again I would try to get a picture of  the people that live across the way from me got me started on. It is always sooo awesome!

If you look at this picture closely on the left in the middle of the snow hill is their hose next to this pile of rocks. They keep this on all winter. I walked up there to get some closer pictures and DAMN it is trippy looking!

 

Ya know, this reminds me of a ride at Knott's Berry Farm, (located in Buena Park California)The colors and all. I guess if you have never been to Knott's Berry Farm it would be hard to describe, but they have rides where you go through these colorful caves and this just reminds me of that!

 

 

 

I have no idea why I find all this so fascinating. It is only frozen water, but I just do. I think I am pretty well done with posting any more of these. So ya'll are safe now! LOL!!!
Things should be back to normal tomorrow, including the snowy weather that is always around here in Lassen County in January!
Ahhh , It sure was nice (the wonderful weather) while it lasted!

Water Eggs in Pinetown?

Water Eggs is what my husband Dave called these when I downloaded the pictures of them on the computer right now! I think it is a good name for the little water droplets that are forming around the hose. This is different from the one we are purposely trying to do. This is happening due to a broken pipe, although neatly wrapped for winter like is done every year , when we noticed this a couple days ago it was obvious some animal had dug and tugged on our wrap.This spigot is on the side of the house and in winter is not seen very often. Something quite easy to forget about until the spring thaw!
OR UNTIL IT BREAKS!

However it did give me my picture(s) of the day!
And I have to admit that "water eggs" is a good name for these!
I just have not asked my husband WHAT laid these water eggs,
Perhaps it is better that I do not know!!!

A home made ice sculpture!

Not a clue what it is called, I am sure it has something to do with "ice sculpting" but you see it in these mountain towns quite a bit. A person turns their hose on low when the weather is freezing and in the morning it is always something different. If a person keeps it up a;; winter it can be truly remarkable what may form. Yesterday hubby and I went outside in the backyard and decided to see what would happen if we tried it. So with pipe in hand, we placed our hose up the side connected the two together added a sprinkler nozzle, placed the water on low, and this is what I woke up to this morning. I was pretty excited about it because we have never done it before, and are not sure how much water is needed. (yes we are aware of the water dilemma and let me assure you we did not use that much) which is probably why it was not just huge like our neighbors.

 

Looks kind of like a spine X-Ray!

And of course my favorite picture with the water spraying down onto our new found experiment of  freezing water and hoses!

We have turned our water off for the day and will only continue this endeavor where we know the water wil be freezing!
