A little background on why I named this blog what I did.

I should probably do a little explaining on my title of this blog. First my last name is White. Therefore I live in the "White House." Living in the "White House" makes me the 1st Lady. My physical address says I live in Westwood Ca. (not the one by Los Angeles) but a little mountain town in Northeastern Ca. However I really live in a section out of Westwood known as Pinetown. With all the joking going on between my friends, I inevitably became Pinetowns 1st Lady living in the "White House." With all that said, this is just going to be a more personal blog of my life here in Westwood/Pinetown. My family and friends being a big part of it.
Originally I really wanted to take a picture a day for one year and post it on this blog. Perhaps like a photo diary. My life though is quite quiet and perhaps is not photo worthy for a picture a day but I plan on trying. So why not hop in and take a ride with me through little mountain town U.S.A. You may just love it as much as I do!

My town

Ash street heading towards Hwy 36. The clouds, the nip in the air says fall is coming.

My town!

Siding bling.

Today instead of the usual garage door bling or fence bling I found some side of the house bling! LOL!!!

A tad different but bling just the same!
I love this kinda stuff, I guess that is obvious however as I am always taking bling pictures!!!
This has actually been out front of this house now for years. The owner said it was found by the lake (Lake Almanor) many, many years ago.

Senior Citizen Club

This building is at the end of Birch street in Westwood and I can't think of the name of the cross street. (That's weird, I don't know why. LOL!) Anyhow this is our Senior Center. This is a wonderful place for our seniors of this community. They have arts and crafts for them. A place to eat lunches.
Its a great place for the seniors to get to visit with one another. Besides that they have BINGO in the evening of one night a week. This is not for just seniors only I hear. I have been invited to go and I plan on doing so. We have SOOOO many wonderful seniors in our town.

This building also doubles as a place for commodities for our needy once a month.

And I believe this is where they make the meals for meals on wheels in our town. A welcomed and needed service.  I can not say enough about the wonderful things this center does for our community. When the doors are open the parking lot is always full, even in our rough winters.

Another failed dream

This building is on the corner of  Birch and Third. It has had so many owners and housed so many different things. The last was the Burger Barn. I remember another that was called "Sandwitches" (yes, it was spelled that way. I and my hubby both seem to recall it was an ice cream shop once. But whatever it was nobody seemed to last therer long, that I can recall. For a town that only has a Pizza Parlor and a cafe, you would think a hamburger joint would make it. Never did. So my post for today is another empty dream of a building from all those that tried.

I just noticed on this sign it says "The other Place" so perhaps this was the name of the last place that tried to make it here.

Buffalo Chips

Buffalo Chips pizza. What a name and what a place. A favorite of us locals and visitors alike. I have been to many a pizza parlor in my day, but there is not a one that can compare to Buffalo Chips! Been here also for as long as I can remember.
If you ever stop in Westwood, this restaurant is about at the top of the list of must see's as our local lake.
For an UNFORGETTABLE sandwich, you must try their beefy cheese supreme! You will not be dissappointed!

They serve ice cold beer.

This is also a favorite to throw children's birthday parties at. You just simply can not go wrong here with the food or the help!

Grandkids and Harley Davidson's

Dave's son Tommy and his wife Jody had also been planing on coming up. They decided to go ahead and come today. They both have been riding motorcycles forever, Tommy a Harley and Jody something else. This past winter they called to let us know that Jody too was now the proud owner of a Harley Davidson. Oh my gosh is it Gorgeous!!!

Off to go cruise the town of Westwood.
Tommy was raised in the house we live in from the age of  7 up.
It was a very nice visit, and glad to have them. They are planning on riding back up next weekend for the whole weekend!

Westwood Fire Department

Westwood Fire Department located in the heart of Westwood. Across the street from the Sheriffs Dept. on the corner of Third and Birch streets. As long as I have been living here (30 years) I believe it has always been here. It's a great little fire department . It's little size should not be confused with the gigantic job these ladies and gentlemen firefighters do for our little town!

Yup, our little firehouse does one helluva job!!!

Mooney Road Bridge

Walking to Westwood from Pinetown requires you to go down Mooney Rd.which has a little bridge that goes over Robbers Creek.
Tonight I found myself walking to Westwood and back. I have not been out that way at that time of the evening, (it was 6:30 P.M.) and stopped at Robber's Creek, hopped over the fence to grab a couple pictures. I liked the way it was looking, the sun setting, kind of overcast.
So todays picture(s) is Robber's creek and bridge on the south side. I have never taken any pictures from this way before. The snow stays on that side forever!

Things are starting to turn green around here. Finally!!!

The Bridge

A trip to southern Ca.

I am going to post this post for April 10th so that I can from this post on place my picture(s) of the day in order. This is just an explanation on why I am doing so. Thanks!
My son Travis and his son (my grandson) Jeremiah Lee live here in Westwood by me. My other 3 sons and my father live in Southern Ca. For the last couple weeks Travis and I were trying to get down there. It was a good time to do so as Jeremiah had spring break coming up, the weather was in our favor (no major snow storms, etc.). I was anxious to see my father. He is 88 years old and has had declining health recently. And for the first time since forever the other 3 sons were for all intents and purposes right next door to each other which meant the 4 sons would all be together again in the same room since my son Troys wedding in May of 2006! The biggest plus was that Troy my one son that lives down there and with whom we would be staying is as close to my Dad's house as if we here in Pinetown/Westwood were driving to Susanville to do some grocery shopping. In other words a very short drive! Travis had not seen his grandfather, (my dad) for over 3 years and Jeremiah was only 3 years old the last time he had seen him.. So I am going to post my pictures of the day except they will not be of my town, they will be of my trip down there.

Westwood Community Services District

Starting out as a beautiful day, It is now freezing ass cold. I thought I would share the Westwood Community Services District building. This is the place that I have given more money to throughout my 30 years of living here. It is our water company and sewage. And I do not think anyone in Lassen County would disagree that this is our biggest bill!

This is on Ash street. Our streets are named in alphabetical order A thru G . It startes with Ash st. then Birch, Cedar, Elm St. (Yes we have an Elm St. LOL!) Fir and Greenwood St. Yup all trees.

Pinetown

Today I received an e-mail from someone whom lives here in Pinetown. I do not recognize this persons name nor would I post it. I am just commenting on this because I always wondered if this blog would be found by someone that lives right here. Like I have said before, when you live in Pinetown your physical and your mailing address is Westwood Ca. We are just a part of Westwood , yet with our own name, (for lack of better words to describe us.)
I just found it exciting that someone, (I think Pinetown has about 300 people in it) would find my blog.
Now for today's pictures. It was like a white out all day when it came to taking pics so this really was the best I could come up with!

My Nala Marie enjoying the snow

The Caboose

Another dark and gloomy day in this part of Lassen County. Not a whole lot of pretty about it. The wind was decent , so it was a bit easier to go out and take a walk. (I hate bitter cold wind, especially when walking on snow lined streets!)
What a sissy la-la for a mountain girl huh?
Anyhoo I took my walk expecting to only go around Pinetown, but I found myself in Westwood and decided to take a picture of the" Caboose."

The Caboose has been sitting on the corner of Westwoods main drag (LOL!!!) Birch and Fourth St across the street from Young's Market for quite awhile. If I recall right it was a gift shop at one time. I absolutely LOVE trains, (espescially Cabbose's .I find it a little odd that I do not remember more about this caboose. But anyway, it sits on the corner there with a For rent sign in the window of the house looking part. Seems sad to me that it is sitting there empty, but a lot of Westwood is becoming empty. I often wonder what will become of this place in just 10 years let alone 20.

Just recently we had the only pharmacy close, which to me was an awful thing to happen. With as many senior citizens and then new mom's with babies, it's a true tragedy that in order to get medication you have to drive either 13 miles to Chester, Ca. or 21 miles to Susanville, Ca. I do not see Westwood having a promising future anymore. This is horribly sad to me.

And boy did I get off the track on this post. Soooo back on the track with my picture(s) of the day,

The "Caboose"

OUR LADY OF THE SNOWS and CHRIST THE KING CHURCH

OUR LADY OF THE SNOWS and CHRIST THE KING CHURCH is on Ash st. in Westwood.
Freezing ass cold, I decided to walk there today for many a reason. Although the wind did make it bitter cold, sometimes ya just got to get out, right?
Besides all that, we received a dusting of snow last night which always makes thing look nicer. It covers up that dirty snow, and brings a whole new freshness. The sun was out and as bright as could be. So all in all by the time I got back from Westwood into Pinetown I was peeling off the layers of clothing I was wearing to get there.

It is a beautiful day as far as weather goes. It's one of those where you look out your window and you just KNOW it's got to be warm outside, but then you walk outside and your mind is quickly changed! LOL!!!

The calm before the storm

The calm before the storm. Overlooking the town of Westwood this evening before sunset. We are suppose to get hit tonight with a storm.

Coming home from Susanville

Shopping in Susanville was the name of the game today. 21 miles east of Westwood, my girlfriend and I did "girl stuff". Coming home and hanging my head out her car window I snapped these pictures. It was a weird day weather wise. Super, super foogy we almost turned around and came home. by the time we were coming back the fog had lifted somewhat.

View Larger Map This is where I live. To the right of Westwood barely visible is the little section I live in called Pinetown. We have probably 150 to 200 people for our population. Westwood on the other hand is HUGE by comparison with a population of around 2000!
