The skies are about to open

Athunder and lightning storm is coming our way tonight and tomorrow and I just could not believe the awesome skies this evening. It's been awhile since I have seen any this pretty. Sooo My picture(s) of the day is stormy skies.

Too beautiful!!!

No spring

Abeautiful day. Pretty much that's all I need to say. I was shocked when I noticed there was no snow on "my mountains"

 

  

  

I guess all this beauty was worth not having any sun all spring!

Moth

This evening I was walking around the block when a friend called me in to visit. Sitting there with her I was shocked to see this GIGANTIC moth fly in the door. I had my camera with me as usual, and I am sure you know the rest of the story. LOL!!!

It is standing next to a plastic bag you get from grocery stores that was filled with something and landed on the carpet.

I have never came close to seeing a moth anywhere near this big.

If this baby would have flown past me I probably would have screamed!!!

Westwood Fire Department

Westwood Fire Department located in the heart of Westwood. Across the street from the Sheriffs Dept. on the corner of Third and Birch streets.As long as I have been living here (30 years) I believe it has always been here. It's a great little fire department . It's little size should not be confused with the gigantic job these ladies and gentlemen firefighters do for our little town!

My Heron followed me home!

I have no idea if this is the same heron from a couple of days ago at Robbers Creek, but I like to think that it is. Perhaps he followed me home that day, because when I went outside to bring some wood in he was in my backyard on the utility pole. I literally was able to take these shots from below him. He did not even move until someone pulled up in their driveway across the street and slammed the door. Then I lost my "buddy" for today I suspect anyway!

And as usual my best (in my opinion ) for last!

OUR LADY OF THE SNOWS and CHRIST THE KING CHURCH

OUR LADY OF THE SNOWS and CHRIST THE KING CHURCH is on Ash st. in Westwood.
Freezing ass cold, I decided to walk there today for many a reason. Although the wind did make it bitter cold, sometimes ya just got to get out, right?
Besides all that, we received a dusting of snow last night which always makes thing look nicer. It covers up that dirty snow, and brings a whole new freshness.The sun was out and as bright as could be. So all in all by the time I got back from Westwood into Pinetown I was peeling off the layers of clothing I was wearing to get there.

It is a beautiful day as far as weather goes. It's one of those where you look out your window and you just KNOW it's got to be warm outside, but then you walk outside and your mind is quickly changed! LOL!!!

A New Beauty in Lassen County

Day 2 of a dusting of snow. A few minutes ago I went across the street into the woods to take my picture(s) for the day and as I was looking along the horizon and the mountains I started thinking I will ALWAYS have those pictures to fall back on all winter.
I asked myself, "Self, what is out here today that probably won't be seen the rest of the winter due to being covered with snow?" These pictures are what I answered myself with. In fact I am rather proud of my pictures today. Not in the pictures themselves but in my own thought process of the how's and why's of doing so. Gosh I love what I am learning for myself through this blog.

So here are the pictures

The ground being a good place to start. One decent snowfall and I will not see anything peeking out of it till a good spring thaw.

My Raspberry bush still has red leaves on it, and the contrast of red and white and green is beautiful

And it just so happens to be the major colors of this holiday season. I hope I can be lucky like this the rest of the winter, but I sort of doubt it. I will however try.

Beauty in Lassen County

What a beautiful morning indeed. Crisp, clean, clear and what I like to call virgin snow. This was taken not out my front door, but by opening the front window. In the lower left of the picture you can see that the wind was so intense last night it blew off the trash can lid, and all the dogs including my own have found it! LOL!!!

Super "Y" Market

Super "Y" Market is the name of the store out on the highway of A-21 and Hwy. 36. Out of the two stores in Westwood, the other being Young's market which I have written about a couple times, I am actually closer to this one.

Hwy 36 is a major hwy that runs from the coast of Ca. to Susanville Ca. which is 21 miles east of Westwood.

With this store is the Villa Monte Motel, the only motel in town.

I am not sure but I think this store/motel has been here forever!

And since I moved here for good in 1979 a woman named Frances has been running them both (store/motel)

Utility Pole in the middle of the street

As is quite apparent by me, I love my "mountain" and I love my little camera, I love taking pictures which makes it real coincidental that I am enjoying making this blog. Even if not a soul from cyberspace ever laid eyes on it, I am learning and seeing and enjoying more and more through the camera's eye. With that said I am constantly bitching about how I see wonderful "begging to be" pictures on a daily basis that I can not take.Why? For the reason that this monstrosity is on my hubby's property. Yep! This utility pole, phone pole, electricity pole all wrapped into one and all it's "glorious lines" are strewn about this whole little side town of Pinetown , Ca. 96137. On the upper left of this picture is where it just so happens to be connected to our house! This section of town was known as old town years ago at the height of the logging industry known as Red River Logging Company.

Because this was the Red River Logging Company owned all of this property. This house came from my hubbys grandfather so the beginning of this history is a little bit unsure.

But what I can say that is sure is that these lines are in the way of wonderful sunrises, and sunsets. Beautiful full moons and half moons.

It's amazing to look at all the not wanted visual arms of lifelines that are coming from this one pole. The one pole that just so happens to be on the edge (literally) of my hubby's property line.

Coming towards where I am standing in this picture taking it, a car approaching is suppose to be in front of this pole to turn towards the left or stay to the right to continue down this street, which really is a loop that brings you back onto this street. Anything on the left of this pole (from this picture) you are actually driving on my hubby's property. This IS a common occurrence especially during the summer months or the hunting times from non locals.

There is, truly is, a wonderful aspect of having this pole where it is.

When someone wants directions to my house? I just tell them to keep on coming down the street until they are about to run into a telephone pole! And I live right there!

A mill ponds beauty in Lassen County

Knowing the day would come when I would just get lucky with pictures in and around "my mountain" I still am not sure what to do about it. One picture or two today? No way! It just can not be done by me, not today. Today my "hubby" asked me what I was going to do for my picture for today. I had stated I was going to the mill pond which is behind our house and take some pictures of these bird houses someone has built out there. He asked me if I wanted to walk around it, (the mill pond.) After all these years living here I had never done so.

After the shock of him asking me and actually wanting to go I grabbed my camera and off we went! Following behind this is the beauty of Lassen County I saw today
