ASwallow on the wire. Here in Pinetown they are all over the place, and most people dont care for them. They build their nests under the eaves of the houses which can at times be quite messy. But I love them. I think they are quite pretty. I thnk we get more of them here than in Westwood (or so it seems) because of the mill pond here.

Pines in the snow

Chatting with someone a few minutes ago, I noticed that the snow had quit flying and that if I were going to get a picture of the outside today I had better do it then. The clouds were looming overhead, getting increasingly darker and I knew the snow was ready to blow fiercely again at any moment. I excused myself from the chat but did make the comment that I was not expecting a very good picture, mainly because quite honestly I was not into tramping to far away in the windy cold miserable weather.

Well I got a little lucky in that a snowmobile had just gone through the forest behind my house and I had a nice packed down pathway made for me.

I still did not venture too far. (The snowmobile riders ) were not able to take away the cold and bitter wind, LOL!!!
But I am somewhat happy with this picture of the pine tree laden with just a bit of snow, just 3 days before Christmas.

And the little baby pine that perhaps will look the same as above in a decade or two.

Lodgepole/Tamarack and "Wood Fairy's"

Ion a very personal level have many a thing to be thankful for today.  The wood "Fairy" came by today and dropped off approximately 1 3/4 cords of firewood

And this was not in rounds, it was split,

 

And it was not only split, it is Lodgepole. A wood I swear by. There is not a living soul that can convince me of another type of wood for house heating that is better than Lodgepole. Tamarack is another name I have heard thrown around about this wood. LOL!!!

Of course I will be the first to say that one should have a nice cord of Cedar for every season. A wood that will light soaking wet, (for the most part.) And the first cord that was brought in for the season.

 

I have said it before and I am sure I will say it again. A pile of wood like this says to me, Allison you will be guaranteed a good month to a month and 1/2 of warmth.

Yes I am thankful today, for wood from the wood fairy and for the arms and the legs and the strength to be able to go stack this wood in a nice woodshed until I need to call on it one more time,

for heat!

North Shore Lake Almanor

Going to Chester yesterday to do a little shopping, I was glad I brought my camera. Chester is 13 miles west of Westwood along highway 36. You pass north shore Lake Almanor and what a sight. Soo that is what my picture(s) of the day will be. Beautiful but cold!
