A little background on why I named this blog what I did.

I should probably do a little explaining on my title of this blog. First my last name is White. Therefore I live in the "White House." Living in the "White House" makes me the 1st Lady. My physical address says I live in Westwood Ca. (not the one by Los Angeles) but a little mountain town in Northeastern Ca. However I really live in a section out of Westwood known as Pinetown. With all the joking going on between my friends, I inevitably became Pinetowns 1st Lady living in the "White House." With all that said, this is just going to be a more personal blog of my life here in Westwood/Pinetown. My family and friends being a big part of it.
Originally I really wanted to take a picture a day for one year and post it on this blog. Perhaps like a photo diary. My life though is quite quiet and perhaps is not photo worthy for a picture a day but I plan on trying. So why not hop in and take a ride with me through little mountain town U.S.A. You may just love it as much as I do!

Old barns, great memories

Sheds, pump hoses, wood sheds, barns, what ever you want to call them, I have always been captivated by them. Starting with childhood memories of an old pump house that used to be behind my great grandmothers house. This pump house made of wood had the "scariest" sound coming from it. My little cousins Sherry and Melody used to tell me "things" about those sounds. I remember being afraid to walk past it when I was so very, very young. This was in Gresham Oregon. Living in Orange County Ca. where there were no barns let alone old pump houses that made noise, it was quite easy to tell me anything about the reason those sounds were coming out of that building. LOL!!!
And ya know? as strange as it may sound, those were/are some of my greatest childhood memories. I guess in my little girlness, I knew my cousins would never do me no harm.
So  as I was walking today I found another ol'shed to take pictures of today. I always love these pictures. There is just something about these old buildings that I suppose will intrigue me forever.

See on the right building there. It looks from this view point like it is a wall? Like there is no back to it?
It's pretty darn close. I have no idea what this triangular shaped building is!

And from the complete other side, this is around the back of the main house. On the far right you can see just a tip of the main house, a deep dark red. This is the back of the first picture. I look at these outbuildings and wonder what they held. How many years of heat (from wood) it has held. What treasure's may or may not be in them anymore. Perhaps how many children may have played hide and go seek here.
Or maybe, just maybe. A little cousin from Southern Ca. was told stories about what REALLY lurked behind these old wooden walls!

Wood Shed Art

With the intent of walking to Young's market (our local and only in town store) I grabbed my camera and took off. My outdoor thermometer said it was a sweltering 54 degrees and I was off. It did not take me but just a block to realize that although the thermometer said it was that warm, you add some wind, walk between snow berms on the side of the road that are anywhere from 1 to 3 feet tall and that temperature drops real quick!!!
Yikes it was cold, (and I was not dressed for it)
So I decided to share Wood Shed Art!

An old gopher trap and a cy separated from its handle above

A old wood stove damper

 Crank handle

Old hammer head and a chain

 An old pulley

 Crank Handle

 An old kerosene can

 Chain

Old keys for fire hydrants and water mains

We do not know what this one is. Does anybody know what this is?

Wood stove leg

 Again

 An old clamp
Soooo much for just one picture a day huh? But it would not be right to not show most of them.
Seriously though we would like to know what that one tool? is above if anyone knows!

Old wood barn on an overcast day

Walking around, I see another old barn/shed that catches my eye for my picture(s) of the day. The weather was overcast, there was no beautiful sunset forming, the whole sky was just one big cloud so not even a chance of a nice cloud formation and my options for an outside picture were without a doubt dwindling. With that said these are my pictures on a very cloudy evening in Pinetown Ca. in Lassen County.

I am not being sarcastic when I say these bikes in the background, for me anyway added an element of age to this picture as you can see these are not newer bicycles.

Learning a little more each day, I am finding out as with this set of pictures, the contrast between the first one from the one below looks by simply just stepping back

Memories from an old shed Day77

Memories have been invoked in me through these pictures, thus making them my favorite on this blog so far. The irony of this is, I see this every single day of my life. This old barn/shed is directly across the street from me and in my direct eye view from my living room window. The memories come from childhood and going to Gresham Oregon every summer to see my grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. They were all peach and blueberry farmers and these little barns/sheds were all over the place. The air smelled so sweet. I loved it up there.
Sooo for my picture(s) today are something I see and enjoy everyday.
The one below is my favorite. From my home I do not see this shed from this angle. I see it from the side.

Simple and beautiful in my eye's. I am sure there are many, many stories associated with this shed, and perhaps I will ask mt neighbor who lives there if she care to share!

An old woodshed and it's memory's Day 43

It used to be that in Westwood and Pinetown you would see barns/wood sheds like this all over. Not so much any more. We are die hards however and this is the outside of our wood shed. The one thing that is so cool as all these old things hanging around were my husband Dave's grandfathers whom used to own this house until his death. So for Dave it is a trip down memory lane. For me, I think it is just awesome, for two reasons mainly. #1 would be that Dave kept all this stuff that so many would probably call junk, and #2 is the fact that we live in an area that we don't have to worry about someone vandalizing this or wrecking it etc. I realize to a lot of younger folk this is all shit. To my husbands grandfather these were the axes used to keep his family warm etc. Out in the valley such as Janesville sometimes you will see those two or three story barns decorated like this . It always brings a smile to me as I know there is such a story behind all those items that others perceive as crap!

View Larger Map This is where I live. To the right of Westwood barely visible is the little section I live in called Pinetown. We have probably 150 to 200 people for our population. Westwood on the other hand is HUGE by comparison with a population of around 2000!
