A little background on why I named this blog what I did.

I should probably do a little explaining on my title of this blog. First my last name is White. Therefore I live in the "White House." Living in the "White House" makes me the 1st Lady. My physical address says I live in Westwood Ca. (not the one by Los Angeles) but a little mountain town in Northeastern Ca. However I really live in a section out of Westwood known as Pinetown. With all the joking going on between my friends, I inevitably became Pinetowns 1st Lady living in the "White House." With all that said, this is just going to be a more personal blog of my life here in Westwood/Pinetown. My family and friends being a big part of it.
Originally I really wanted to take a picture a day for one year and post it on this blog. Perhaps like a photo diary. My life though is quite quiet and perhaps is not photo worthy for a picture a day but I plan on trying. So why not hop in and take a ride with me through little mountain town U.S.A. You may just love it as much as I do!

Allison

Walker Mansion and a flatbed truck

Addict, enthusiast, junkie, devotee. These are all words I can use to describe the way I am beginning to feel about this blog. I have "found" a hobby I am thoroughly enjoying. What began as a bit of a panic, wondering how I was going to find a picture a day, has turned into so very much more!

#1. I am definitely getting more exercise in search of "that picture" for the day.

#2 I am beginning to meet and/or see my local town folk so much more often, embarking on longer conversations than the normal chit-chat that so invariably happens in the passing of another in a grocery store aisle.

#3 I have also scored by finding two people with similar blogs that visit mine here and I do the same at theirs. The newest I found I believe through twitter or Blog Catalog somehow and his name is Eric S. and his blog is Ruminations of a Small Town Mountain Boy , a name that no doubtfully caught my eye. The other is Jana that I have mentioned before that I also have had the great pleasure in meeting. To think that someone lives just 21 miles from me with the same idea for a blog I found most intriguing. Her blog is Susanville Daily Photo a little slice of life from Lassen County, California. and can be found here I simply found her by googling Lassen County or Susanville or something similar.

#4 The real learning experience thus far is how many wonderful, and truly picturesque things, places, people there really are in my little town. I am learning more and more everyday that I am loving living here even more than I did. I love Lassen County. The place, the people and all the little things that perhaps a lot of us take for granted in our lives. I am finding myself loving the pressure to find myself "having" to take just a photo a day, you may be as surprised as I am that there is so much more in front of each and every one of us, that perhaps, just perhaps we are just to busy to notice!

With all that said, these are the picture(s) I have chosen for today!

This little flatbed truck is parked out in front of Walker Mansion. A whole entire blog could be written about Walker Mansion in its own right. As I said above, there really is an incredible amount of places that can be written and photographed right here in Westwood along with a very rich history behind it!

I do not know the story behind this but I plan on finding out!!!

I am by this little flat bed truck on a weekly basis at the least, but I am ashamed to say that I have not stopped long enough to "smell the roses"

What a difference a mountain can make! Day 75

With the familiar sound of my dogs wanting out in the wee hours of the morning, and the ever lack of familiarity of hearing the "hubby" doing it, I responded. The morning was crisp cool and ever so beautiful. Then I saw the moon, camera in hand I tried for some shots, not to good however.

Yes I know! But with the early morning dawn of a new day and in the peace and quite of sleeping husbands and pee'd dogs I checked my e-mail. You see yesterday I found a web site entitled Susanvilles Daily Photo and it can be found here and I wrote the author of this blog and asked her about link exchange etc. and told her I was attempting the same feat as she, just on the other side of the mountain. Susanville is 21 miles east of Westwood over Fredonyer pass. When my children were younger we lived in Susanville on and off for years. I LOVE that town. Not getting over there much these days I am looking forward to a Susanville picture a day. Well I received an e-mail back excepting the link deal . The rather ironic thing about this is yesterdays post about the Sierra Super Stop, is right across the street from her post of Paul Bunyan and Babe. I almost made them my yesterday post, but decided not to do with the fact Gasoline stations (as can be read in yesterdays post) was kind of keeping with my theme the last two days.LOL!!
So to a friend in blogging this ought to be interesting. Having lived in both towns I KNOW what a difference a mountain can make! (As far as weather goes!) So go do a check it out thing and see for yourself!
Out my front door to the right, looks like a lake, It is just the fog over Walker Lake!

Freebies from Lassen County? I don't think soooooooo! Day 66

Not at all was this the picture(s) of the day I was anticipating. I presumed that this morning I would awaken to a neighborhood wrapped in a blanket of snow. This is not what I found. Camera in hand and sleeping eyes opening, I looked to the left and then looked to the right and snapped these pictures in my naked feet. Done I jumped back into the comfort of my carpeted floor and then took a wonderful , aromatic breath deep into my lungs and watched the exhaling air leave me and I was happy! It felt so good and it felt so right. There is nothing for me as refreshing as a deep breath of mountain air. (Of course standing on an ice cold frozen deck did indeed help the waking up process!)

So to the left and

a look to the left over towards the mountains. This is what I saw, Beautiful is it not. Oh well I think so!
Now on a more fun note! In the early hours of today, The great United States of Americas election day, I kept hearing on the news stations how,
#1 Starbucks,
#2 Krispy Kreme donuts,
#3 Ben and Jerry's ice cream were giving away their prospective products.

So with it being a little on the chilly side still, I decided to Google these 3 places and try to map out what it would take for a Lassen County resident to go and take these places up on their freebie today offers.

Well #1 Starbucks. If you live in Susanville Ca, you have one in your town. For me it is a 27.8 mile jaunt for that free cup of coffee. Also a mountain Pass! (Fredonyer)

Now on to #2 That wonderful Red, White and Blue star shaped Krispy Kreme donut is going to require I from Westwood/Pinetown to drive to Pinole Ca, at a mere distance of 182.35 miles one way to get this delicious free donut.

Ahhh but we got lucky on the ice cream. Leaving from my street in Pinetown it is only 52.5 mile trip to Chico for that free scoop of ice cream. (I think that must be how the crow flies) but I used Google as my source!

I decided to opt out for all those freebies and walk to Young's Market in Westwood which is a 3 mile round trip as Allison walks for a 12 pack of Coca-Cola at a price of $6.88 .

The time and effort and gas money I saved today by not going after the freebies?

PRICELESS

plus I can now add 3 more pictures of crossing Robbers Creek Bridge on my way back from what I believe to be the smart choice! Shopping whether free or not LOCAL!
LOL!!!

A wet dog, a rainy day, a picture, call it done Day 65

Impracticability of pulling off a picture a day showed itself again  today as the difficulty of finding or figuring out a picture I could take. I have found though since starting this, that if I wait SOMETHING usually shows itself. But today, today has been different. The pouring rain is keeping us home bound (and I have no complaints) as I do not care for rain. My preference for snow is quite apparent in the fact you don't see me hanging out in the rain much LOL!!!

I really did think I would be posting the first real snow for this time of year, but darkness is falling and falling fast and if by chance it were to start snowing which I think it will I will not be able to capture it. So today I give you a wet dog. The neighbors little dog came over to play with Nala and Buick and when he came in he was just soaking wet. Hiding from my dogs he jumped up on Dave's chair perhaps to get warm rather than play.

As you can see by the unshaven Dave it is apparent we never had any plan on leaving the house LOL!!!

I think they are both rather surprised by each others looks right now!

Matter of fact they look a little similar on this rainy day.

But jealousy kicks in and Nala and Buick can no longer stand the attention that Dave is giving little Romeo.

NOTE: I am just this second done writing this post and our Roommate, (He lives in a back house) just came in from work from Susanville. He said it is snowing and sticking on Fredonyer pass. This mountain pass is 6 or 7 miles east of here on highway 36!

Well it gets me off the hook for what I will be posting for a picture of the day tomorrow!

View Larger Map This is where I live. To the right of Westwood barely visible is the little section I live in called Pinetown. We have probably 150 to 200 people for our population. Westwood on the other hand is HUGE by comparison with a population of around 2000!
