A little background on why I named this blog what I did.

I should probably do a little explaining on my title of this blog. First my last name is White. Therefore I live in the "White House." Living in the "White House" makes me the 1st Lady. My physical address says I live in Westwood Ca. (not the one by Los Angeles) but a little mountain town in Northeastern Ca. However I really live in a section out of Westwood known as Pinetown. With all the joking going on between my friends, I inevitably became Pinetowns 1st Lady living in the "White House." With all that said, this is just going to be a more personal blog of my life here in Westwood/Pinetown. My family and friends being a big part of it.
Originally I really wanted to take a picture a day for one year and post it on this blog. Perhaps like a photo diary. My life though is quite quiet and perhaps is not photo worthy for a picture a day but I plan on trying. So why not hop in and take a ride with me through little mountain town U.S.A. You may just love it as much as I do!

Lodgepole/Tamarack and "Wood Fairy's"

Ion a very personal level have many a thing to be thankful for today.  The wood "Fairy" came by today and dropped off approximately 1 3/4 cords of firewood
And this was not in rounds, it was split,

And it was not only split, it is Lodgepole. A wood I swear by. There is not a living soul that can convince me of another type of wood for house heating that is better than Lodgepole. Tamarack is another name I have heard thrown around about this wood. LOL!!!
Of course I will be the first to say that one should have a nice cord of Cedar for every season. A wood that will light soaking wet, (for the most part.) And the first cord that was brought in for the season.

I have said it before and I am sure I will say it again. A pile of wood like this says to me, Allison you will be guaranteed a good month to a month and 1/2 of warmth.
Yes I am thankful today, for wood from the wood fairy and for the arms and the legs and the strength to be able to go stack this wood in a nice woodshed until I need to call on it one more time,
for heat!

Ohh that brings back a few memories. I heated completely with wood, never allowing the electric heaters to come on. Living at 10,000 feet, we had a looonnnggg winter. I used 8 to 9 cords of wood a year. Mostly lodge pole pine. But to clean the chimney, at least once a week, I wood burn some Aspen. It burns very hot, and fast, with a resulting loosening of pitch in the chimney. Now to bank the fire at night, I used pitch pine. This is wood that has been seared on the outside during a forest fire, causing the sap to boil and harden. The wood is unbelievably hard to cut and split, but burns for a very long time. Of course you have to have a good fire going before putting it on.

Never heard of burning Coke cans to clean your chimney before. There is a product that has been out for a while, I think it's called Chim Flux. It comes in a couple of different forms. One is like those manufactured logs you light in a clean fire place, and one is like a traffic flare. They supposedly let off something that loosens the pitch and soot in the chimney, and lets it fall into the fireplace. I have heard they work pretty good.

Howdy Hi!
I would love to hear what you have to say. Why not leave me a comment?

View Larger Map This is where I live. To the right of Westwood barely visible is the little section I live in called Pinetown. We have probably 150 to 200 people for our population. Westwood on the other hand is HUGE by comparison with a population of around 2000!
